 Francesco Violante
CEO
Francesco Violante is CEO of SITA. Under his leadership, SITA is entering a new era during which it intends to further strengthen its position at the heart of the air transport industry and scale new heights in terms of delivering innovation and cost reductions to the industry.
Francesco leads a newly merged company with 3,900 employees and aggregated revenues of $1.554 billion in 2005. SITA is world’s leading provider of air transport communications and IT solutions with a presence in 220 countries and territories.
He took on this new role after three successful years as CEO and Managing Director of SITA INC (Information Networking Computing) during which time he guided the IT solutions business of SITA through a period of major strategic change. Among his major successes was the strategic move into outsourcing which led directly to the two largest deals in the company’s history to date, a seven year outsourcing agreement with Cargolux and a ten year outsourcing agreement with Dusseldorf Airport, an industry first.
He is also chairman of SITA subsidiaries OnAir and CHAMP Cargosystems, two ground-breaking industry initiatives which he brought to fruition as SITA INC CEO. OnAir has already been endorsed as the partner of choice by a number of leading airlines anxious to be early adopters of in-flight mobile telephony. CHAMP Cargosystems is the world’s only IT company totally dedicated to air cargo.
Francesco is a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of IONA, a middleware software company which is based in Ireland and listed on NASDAQ.
An Italian national, Francesco is married with two children. He is based at SITA's global headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
